Akkal and Santoshi Win Titles at the 2nd Nepalgunj 10 Music Night Run

Nepal Army runner Akkal Bahadur Pal and Dhading’s Santoshi Shrestha won the titles of the second edition of the Nepalgunj 10 Music Night Run.
The road race was held on Saturday night on a route certified by the world running governing body Association of International Marathons and Distance Races. In the men’s open 10 km category, Akkal Bahadur Pal secured first place by completing the distance in 32:18:00 minutes. Bhupendra Sunar finished second with a time of 33:04:77, while Aravinda Yadav from Narainapur, Banke, claimed third place in 33:08:09.
In the women’s 10 km category, Santoshi Shrestha completed the race in 39:09:00 minutes to take the title. Dipshikha Shahi from Kohalpur, Banke, finished second in 44:58:13, while Geeta Sahu from Narainapur, Banke, finished third with a time of 52:26:30. Geeta Sahu was the winner of the first edition of the race.
Organized with the objective of promoting social unity, a healthy society, and the nighttime economy through music and sports, the event also featured a veteran (45 years and above) 10 km category. Bharat Shrestha, aged 55, from Khajura, Banke, won the veteran title by completing the race in 51:03:17. Pushkar Bishwakarma, aged 69, from Gulariya, Bardiya, finished second in 1:00:44, while 69-year-old Mangle Tamang from Nepalgunj came third in 1:03:59.
In the school-level 5 km race, Sameer Basnet, Basant Majhi, and Naresh Kunwar secured first, second, and third positions respectively in the boys’ category. In the girls’ category, Swastika Shahi, Apsara Bam Thakuri, and Janadevi Mahatara finished among the top three.
The winners received cash prizes and medals from Lumbini Province Assembly Member Meena Shrestha, Lumbini Province Sports Council Member Secretary Tirandaj Gautam, former Member Secretary Bhim Oli, President of Creative Gunj TS Thakuri, and Federation of Nepali Journalists Banke Vice President Karuna Shah, among others.
The Music Night Run, organized to promote the nighttime market, also featured a lively musical performance by national singer Sunil Singh Thakuri. Students from Sarth Integrated School presented dance performances during the event.
Nepalgunj 10 Night Run is a full member race of Association of International Marathons and Distance Races. Nepalgunj is the only city in Nepal hosting two AIMS-affiliated races.
First-Ever “School to Olympic” Program Held in Nepalgunj
Earlier, the first-ever School to Olympic program was organized grandly in Nepalgunj. The event was jointly organized by Nepal Olympian Association, Race Nepal, and Creative Gunj.
The program featured interactions between students and some of Nepal’s most accomplished athletes, including Olympian Deepak Bista, Olympian Debu Thapa, Olympian Santoshi Shrestha, double SAG gold medalist Deepak Shrestha, SAG gold medalist Junu Rai, first-generation Olympian Surendra Hamal, and Nepal’s first female Olympian Parbati Thapa.
The program was moderated by former vice-captain of the Nepal national cricket team and media personality Mamta Thapa. The “School to Olympic” program proved highly motivational and impactful for participating students.
During the event, honors were presented to Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City, Managing Director of Hotel Diamond Palace Jeevan Singh Thakuri, and CEO of KL Dugar Group Pradeep Chhajed for their contributions to the success of the program.
